
Ahmedabad, April 18: In an exciting match of IPL 2026, the Gujarat Titans (GT) showcased their skills by defeating the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 5 wickets on April 17. The match took place at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, where GT successfully chased down KKR’s target of 181 runs in just 19.4 overs, marking KKR’s fifth loss of the season.
Gujarat Titans started their innings strongly, with Sai Sudharsan and captain Shubman Gill putting together a partnership of 57 runs for the first wicket. Sudharsan scored 22 runs off 16 balls before being dismissed by Sunil Narine. Following this, Jos Buttler and Gill added 38 runs for the second wicket in just 24 balls. Buttler contributed 25 runs, hitting 2 fours and 2 sixes before getting out.
Captain Shubman Gill, however, continued to impress with his batting, completing his half-century. He played a remarkable innings of 86 runs off 50 balls, which included 8 fours and 4 sixes. Washington Sundar managed only 13 runs, while Glenn Phillips scored 19 runs off 16 balls. Shahrukh Khan and Rahul Tewatia remained not out at 3 and 7 runs, respectively. For KKR, Varun Chakravarthy was the standout bowler, taking 2 wickets for 34 runs in 4 overs, while Vaibhav Arora and Ramandeep Singh each claimed one wicket.
Earlier, KKR won the toss and opted to bat first, but their innings faltered as they were bowled out for 180 runs. Captain Ajinkya Rahane was dismissed without scoring, and Ankur Raghuwanshi followed suit with just 8 runs. Tim Seifert also struggled, scoring 19 runs before being caught off Kagiso Rabada’s bowling.
Cameroon Green stood firm, scoring his first half-century of the season with a commendable 79 runs off 55 balls, including 7 fours and 4 sixes. However, he lacked support from his teammates, as Rovman Powell scored 27 runs off 20 balls but failed to capitalize on a good start. Anukul Roy managed 9 runs, while Rinku Singh could only add 1 run. Ramandeep Singh contributed 17 runs. For the Gujarat Titans, Kagiso Rabada was exceptional, taking 3 wickets for just 29 runs, while Mohammad Siraj and Ashok Sharma each took 2 wickets. Rashid Khan and Prasidh Krishna chipped in with one wicket each. This victory marked Gujarat Titans’ third win of the season.
