Guv summons WB CS to update him on Aliah University controversy

Kolkata, April 4 : West Bengal Chief Secretary Hari Krishna Dwivedi has been summoned by Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar to update him regarding a controversial issue of threat on the Aliah versity Vice-Chancellor by an expelled student, who was also arrested on Sunday. ” There will be focus on the situation once there is an update from the Chief Secretary as such shameful incidents call for exemplary consequences and no cover up Aliah versity Vice Chancellor (issue),” a Raj Bhaban tweet said. Earlier the day, the Governor summoned the Chief Secretary to update him on the issue by 1 PM on Monday. ” (The) Chief Secretary has been called upon to send (a) full update by 1 PM tomorrow ( Monday) on a worrisome scenario reflected in (a) video in viral circulation. Such (a) state of affairs where law violator rogue elements have their way with no fear of law is certainly a fearful scenario for law abiders,” the first tweet from the governor on the Aliah versity issue, said. The Raj Bhavan tweet also posted a video, which went viral across the state, showing Aliah versity Vice-Chancellor Muhammad Ali is seen seated calmly on his chair in his chamber and some students, including Giasuddin Mondal, and some of his followers abusing him and threatened to slap on his cheek. Giasuddin was arrested on Sunday, two days after his threat to the VC as the state was rocked after the former student’s blatant threat to the VC in the versity complex. The oppositions while condemning this charged the ruling Trinamool Congress with “creating” such environment in the educational institutions where the safety of the teaching comm ty was at stake. The TMC, however, disowned Aliah versity on leader. Mondal was expelled from the versity a few years ago and Trinamool Congress leadership said the party had no connection with the student leader. On Sunday, the police arrested Mondal, booking him under stringent sections including Section 307 (Attempt to Murder) of the Indian Penal Code. “Police reacted promptly in connection with the recent incident that took place at Aliah versity and Giasuddin Mondal has already been arrested. Investigation proceeds,” West Bengal police tweeted from its official handle. The students of Aliah versity had staged a demonstration in the campus against the harassment of the vice-chancellor. The students said there were at least two other students who had threatened the VC and demanded that they also be arrested. PC SJC BM
