Srinagar, April 16 : A gun battle raged between militants and forces in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, officials said on Saturday. They said the encounter erupted at Watnar Kokernag area of Anantnag district during an anti- militancy operation which was launched by the team of joint forces. “As the joint team zeroed in on the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists opened fire triggering a gunfight,” a security official said. Police and security forces are on job, a police tweet said. The gunfight erupted at a time when there have been a series of targeted attacks on non locals, minority comm ty and panchayat members. On Friday evening, an independent Sarpanch was shot dead in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. MJR GK
