Gandhinagar, April 27: The Gujarat BJP government is launching the ‘Mangalum Canteen’ initiative to empower women. This scheme not only provides employment but also inspires women to become self-reliant.
The Gujarat government has taken a significant step towards women’s empowerment with the ‘Mangalum Canteen’ initiative. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the Gujarat Livelihood Promotion Company Limited (GLPC) is expanding this program across the state, embodying the mantra of ‘Swadeshi at Every Home.’
Currently, over 200 Mangalum Canteens are operational in the state. Women from self-help groups working at the Gandhinagar canteen report that their income has improved their living standards.
Saralaben, an employee at the Gandhinagar canteen, stated, “We are not highly educated, so we come here to work in the kitchen. This job helps us support our families. The Gujarat government has provided us with a great opportunity. We don’t know much else, so we are cooking here to sustain ourselves and our families.”
Through the Mangalum Canteen initiative, more than 1,700 women have found employment, earning between ₹10,000 to ₹50,000 per month. A significant number of women are also employed at the Gandhinagar canteen.
Mital Prajapati, the canteen manager, mentioned, “Through GLPC, many sisters in Gujarat have gained livelihoods. We have received training in hotel management through GLPC, which has greatly assisted us in managing the canteen. Today, I can manage well and encourage the women here.”
Mangalum Canteens operate in key locations such as government offices, educational institutions, hostels, hospitals, primary health centers, and police buildings. The ‘Mangalum Canteen’ initiative has become a successful example of women’s empowerment.
