Gandhinagar, March 1: Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw attended the ‘Gujarat SemiConnect Conference 2026’ held in Gandhinagar on Sunday. During a media interaction, he emphasized that Saturday marked a significant day in India’s industrial and technological history. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the country’s first semiconductor plant, fulfilling a promise made years ago to bring the semiconductor industry to India.
Vaishnaw announced that a second plant will soon commence commercial production, with two additional plants set to start this year. A total of ten plants have been approved, with four expected to begin production or inauguration this year.
He praised Gujarat’s contribution, stating that the state plays a crucial role in the ecosystem being developed for the semiconductor industry. He also thanked Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel for his efforts.
Additionally, Vaishnaw provided updates on railway development, revealing that a record budget of ₹17,366 crores has been allocated for railways in Gujarat this year, compared to just ₹589 crores from 2009 to 2014.
He noted that a total investment of ₹1,28,748 crores is being made in Gujarat’s railways. This budget will facilitate the renovation of 87 railway stations, with work completed on 21 stations. Rapid progress is being made at several stations, including Ahmedabad, Sabarmati, Surat, Udhna, and Somnath.
Furthermore, he reported that the bullet train project is advancing well, with plans to launch the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route next year. The train will travel at a speed of 350 kilometers per hour, reducing the journey time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to just 1 hour and 57 minutes. Vaishnaw mentioned that officials from Japan’s Prime Minister’s office recently visited and expressed satisfaction with the bullet train’s progress and quality. Additionally, Prime Minister Modi has approved seven new bullet train projects.
