Gujarat Government Launches Initiative to Provide Over 100 GPUs for AI Development

Gandhinagar, March 30: The Gujarat government has taken a significant step in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) by announcing a plan to make over 100 high-performance graphics processing units (GPUs) available across the state. This initiative aims to provide advanced computing infrastructure to startups, educational institutions, and government departments.

The initiative is being implemented by Gujarat Informatics Limited under the Department of Science and Technology, aligning with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s vision for technology-driven and citizen-centric governance.

This plan is part of the central government’s India AI Mission, which focuses on creating shared AI computing infrastructure. It will assist startups and research institutions in model training, application development, and large-scale implementation of AI solutions.

According to officials, this shared facility will reduce both the cost and time associated with purchasing high-level computing systems. Additionally, it will promote the rapid development and adoption of AI-based applications in governance and industry.

The announcement follows an AI startup dialogue held recently in Gandhinagar, where the Chief Minister engaged directly with nearly two dozen emerging startups from across the country.

During the event, the Chief Minister emphasized Gujarat’s goal to become a leading state in AI adoption, focusing on enhancing transparency in governance and improving citizen services. He highlighted the crucial role of startups in driving innovation in sectors such as manufacturing, healthcare, and education.

In recent years, the state government has taken several steps to strengthen the AI ecosystem, including establishing Centers of Excellence, launching startup innovation challenges, and partnering with industry leaders.

This new GPU-based infrastructure will enable AI model training, the development of new applications, and their large-scale usage. Officials state that it will also facilitate the rapid development and implementation of AI solutions tailored to local needs in governance.

According to the government, this initiative marks a significant step towards making Gujarat a national hub for artificial intelligence, innovation, and digital governance.
