Botad, April 22: Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel addressed a public gathering in Botad district on Wednesday. He noted that Gujarat’s state budget has surged from ₹30,000 crore during Congress rule to over ₹4 lakh crore today.
While speaking at the ‘Vikas Sankalp Sabha’ organized ahead of the upcoming local self-government elections, Patel attributed this budget increase to the economic development fostered by the continuous governance of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
He highlighted that before BJP’s governance, the number of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Gujarat was 181,000, which has now skyrocketed to over 2.7 million.
Discussing industrial growth, Patel mentioned the Vibrant Gujarat Summit initiated by then Chief Minister and current Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This summit has significantly contributed to making Gujarat the “engine of development” and a major provider of employment in the country.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the state’s economic progress reflects ongoing policy efforts focused on development.
He also addressed the changes in political discourse, stating that previous elections were often marred by divisions based on caste and religion. He claimed that Prime Minister Modi has liberated the nation from such divides and initiated development-oriented politics. Unlike opposition parties that only appear during elections, BJP workers remain engaged with the public throughout the year.
Patel shed light on welfare measures, mentioning the Ayushman Bharat scheme, which provides free treatment up to ₹10 lakh through the Ayushman card. This initiative has alleviated the financial burden on poor and middle-class families, with all citizens over 70 now eligible without any income limit.
He also referenced the Pradhan Mantri Street Vendor Scheme, which allows small vendors and street hawkers to obtain loans without collateral. This has helped many beneficiaries escape the cycle of high-interest loans.
