Junagadh, April 13: Jagdish Vishwakarma, the Gujarat BJP President, campaigned for the upcoming local body elections in Junagadh district on Monday. During his address, he targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, claiming that his roots in Italy prevent him from understanding rural poverty.
Vishwakarma stated that Gandhi cannot comprehend the struggles of mothers affected by smoke from traditional stoves. Speaking at a ‘Vikas Sankalp Sabha’ meeting, he emphasized that Gandhi’s Italian heritage disconnects him from the realities of village life.
He accused Congress of keeping Gujarat deprived for years and attempting to tarnish the image of the state and its people. Vishwakarma referenced statements made by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, asserting that the people of Gujarat would respond to this disrespect with their votes in the upcoming elections. He highlighted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the state is reaching new heights of development.
He pointed out that the Narmada Dam project, which had faced years of delays, was approved within 17 days of Modi taking office, fulfilling Sardar Patel’s dream.
Vishwakarma announced a relief package of ₹10,000 crore during challenging times of excessive and untimely rainfall, along with the purchase of crops worth ₹15,000 crore at support prices. He noted that ministers and party workers stood shoulder to shoulder with farmers, ensuring direct benefit transfers and fertilizer subsidies through the Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme.
He added that due to the efforts of Governor Acharya Devvrat and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, over 1 million farmers have adopted natural farming, with their produce linked to global markets through Amul.
Vishwakarma also mentioned the ongoing work under the Surya Uday scheme to provide daytime electricity for agriculture in 16,000 villages. He highlighted improvements in water accessibility, stating that women no longer need to carry water on their heads, thanks to the tap connection scheme. Gujarat leads in rooftop solar installations, benefiting over 1 million homes and reducing electricity costs for residents.
He criticized the electoral preparations of opposition parties, claiming that Congress and others do not even have a complete list of candidates and will not mislead the people of Gujarat. He urged voters to ensure a decisive victory for BJP candidates in the district, taluka, and municipal elections scheduled for April 26.
