Mumbai, April 21: Gold and silver prices fell in India on Tuesday. In the early session, both precious metals experienced a decline of up to 0.68 percent.
At 10:27 AM on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), the June 5, 2026 contract for gold was down by 0.16 percent or ₹243, trading at ₹1,53,700. During the trading session, gold hit a low of ₹1,53,675 and a high of ₹1,53,922.
Meanwhile, the May 5, 2026 contract for silver fell by 0.70 percent or ₹1,776, priced at ₹2,50,769. Silver recorded a low of ₹2,50,210 and a high of ₹2,51,222 during the session.
International markets also witnessed a drop in gold and silver prices. Gold was down by 0.43 percent at $4,807 per ounce, while silver declined by 1.44 percent to $78.885 per ounce.
Manav Modi, a commodity analyst at Motilal Oswal Financial Services, noted that uncertainty surrounding the U.S.-Iran ceasefire and upcoming macro events has created a cautious atmosphere in the market, leading to a slight decrease in gold prices.
He further mentioned that uncertainty remains about whether new peace talks can occur before the ceasefire ends this week. Conflicting signals from both sides have heightened volatility. U.S. President Trump confirmed that a delegation led by Vice President J.D. Vance would travel to Pakistan for talks, while Iranian officials indicated that the likelihood of negotiations is low as long as the U.S. naval blockade continues.
However, some reports suggest that Tehran may engage in talks through regional intermediaries. Recent military actions, including the U.S. seizure of an Iranian-flagged vessel, have further escalated geopolitical risks.
The decline in gold and silver prices is also attributed to a stronger dollar index, which has risen to 97.94. Typically, a stronger dollar index correlates with falling gold and silver prices.
