Garmin Launches Descent Mk3i: A Dive Computer with Smartwatch Features

Mumbai, April 23: Garmin has unveiled the Descent Mk3i, now available in a sleek 51 mm version featuring a silver and black titanium design. Priced at €1,599.99 or US$1,599.99, this model is set to ship within days.

This innovative device serves as both a dive computer and a smartwatch. It boasts a 1.4-inch AMOLED display protected by sapphire crystal and is rated for 20 ATM, allowing for dives of up to 200 meters. The battery life is impressive, lasting up to 66 hours in dive mode and 25 days in smartwatch mode. However, with the always-on display activated, the battery life reduces to approximately 10 days.

A standout feature is the SubWave sonar support, enabling divers to send preset messages underwater to other compatible devices within a range of 30 meters. When paired with the Descent T2 transceiver, the watch can monitor tank pressure and depth for up to eight divers within 10 meters.

Garmin has included multiple dive modes, accommodating single and multi-gas setups, including Nitrox and Trimix. It also supports freediving, apnea, gauge mode, and closed-circuit rebreather diving. The integrated DiveView maps provide depth contours and access to over 4,000 dive sites.

Safety and planning are prioritized with features that estimate dive readiness based on sleep, stress, and activity levels. The watch includes essential tools such as a dive compass, surface GPS tracking, a variometer, and real-time no-decompression limit data.

Beyond diving, the Descent Mk3i functions as a comprehensive smartwatch. It offers over 80 sports apps, heart rate monitoring, VO2 max, Pulse Ox, sleep tracking, and personalized training suggestions. Additionally, it supports music storage, contactless payments, and notifications, with 32 GB of onboard storage.
