Ranchi, August 12: Former Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Raghuvar Das, has criticized the Hemant Soren government for not addressing the ongoing student protests in the state. He has urged the government to make a positive decision on the students’ demands within a week. Ignoring issues that affect the future of youth is unacceptable for any government, he stated.
During a meeting with protesting students at the Jaipal Singh Stadium in Ranchi on Wednesday evening, Das emphasized that employment, transparency in competitive exams, and improvements in the recruitment process are fundamental concerns for the youth. The government should engage in sensitive discussions on these issues and find a way to resolve them.
He asserted that there should be no use of force against students who are peacefully demonstrating for their rights. It is the government’s responsibility to listen to the voices of the youth rather than suppress them. Direct communication with students is essential to break the deadlock, he added.
Das has given the government a week to take concrete steps regarding the students’ demands. If no action is taken within this timeframe, he plans to join the protests himself. He mentioned that if necessary, he would begin a hunger strike at the memorial site of Bhagwan Birsa Munda after a week.
The former Chief Minister pointed out that the student movement is not limited to a single decision regarding exams; it encompasses trust in the recruitment system, transparency, and questions about the future of the youth. He appealed to the government to initiate immediate dialogue rather than escalate tensions.
Das noted that repeated controversies surrounding competitive exams have increased dissatisfaction among the youth. Therefore, the government needs to take solid and reliable steps to address their concerns.
