Ranchi, August 12: Student leader Devendra Nath Mahto, who has been on a hunger strike for 11 days against alleged irregularities in the JPSC and JSSC recruitment exams, has requested the administration of Sadar Hospital to allow him to go to the protest site at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium. In his application to the civil surgeon, he stated that despite receiving treatment, his indefinite hunger strike continues.
Mahto explained that he was brought to the Sadar Hospital by ambulance following police action during a protest on August 10, and he is currently undergoing treatment. He emphasized that even while hospitalized, his movement and hunger strike persist.
He expressed that thousands of students and youth in Jharkhand are protesting for their future, rights, and justice at the Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium. Being away from the protest site is mentally distressing for him.
“My body is being treated in the hospital, but my spirit and resolve are with the students fighting for their future,” Mahto stated. He urged medical officials to grant him permission to go to the protest site on humanitarian grounds, assuring them that he would adhere to all necessary instructions and precautions provided by the doctors.
Mahto highlighted that his “Corruption-Free Recruitment Campaign” against the alleged irregularities in JPSC and JSSC has been ongoing since July 5. He vowed to continue his struggle until he achieves “complete justice.”
It is noteworthy that on August 10, students attempted to surround the assembly to voice their demands. This led to clashes between police and protesters, with the police using water cannons and tear gas to control the crowd, followed by a baton charge. Reports indicated that several students, including Mahto, were injured during the incident, after which he was admitted to Sadar Hospital for treatment.
