Five Star Players Left Unsold in WPL 2027 Mini Auction
The WPL 2027 mini auction saw several star players, including Sophia Dunkley and Chamari Athapaththu, go unsold despite high expectations.

Kochi, October 29 (Daily Kiran) : The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2027 mini auction took place on Wednesday in Kochi. Australian star Sophie Molinex emerged as the highest-priced player, with UP Warriors acquiring her for ₹1.10 crore. However, several notable names failed to attract any bids during the event.
Sophia Dunkley, the explosive England batter, was expected to be one of the most sought-after players. Despite her high expectations, Dunkley went unsold, starting with a base price of ₹50 lakh.
Chamari Athapaththu, the Sri Lankan all-rounder and captain, was another surprising omission from the auction. Athapaththu had an impressive record in 2026, scoring 750 runs at a strike rate of 145 in 22 T20 internationals, along with 27 wickets. Despite setting her base price at ₹30 lakh, no franchise showed interest in acquiring her.
Australian bowling all-rounder Heather Graham also went unsold. Known for her excellent bowling in the final overs of T20 matches, Graham has a strong track record in the Women’s Big Bash League. Her base price was ₹30 lakh, but she did not attract any bids.
Uma Chhetri, a member of the Indian women’s cricket team that won the ODI World Cup in 2025, also remained unsold in the auction. Despite her contributions to the championship-winning team, Chhetri’s base price of ₹30 lakh did not entice any buyers.
Lastly, Saika Ishaque, who performed well for the Mumbai Indians in WPL 2026, was another player who went unsold. With a base price of ₹30 lakh, expectations were high for Ishaque after her impressive bowling performance last season.
The auction highlighted the unpredictable nature of player valuations in women’s cricket, leaving fans and analysts alike surprised by the outcomes.
