
Colombo, February 28: In a thrilling encounter at the T20 World Cup 2026 Super-8 round, England triumphed over New Zealand by four wickets on Friday. Chasing a target of 160 runs, England achieved their goal with three balls to spare, thanks to a remarkable late innings from Will Jacks.
England’s chase did not start well, as Phil Salt fell for just 2 runs, dismissed by Matt Henry. Jos Buttler, struggling with form, also went out without scoring. After losing two quick wickets, captain Harry Brook and Jacob Bethel attempted to stabilize the innings, adding 48 runs for the third wicket.
Brook scored 26 runs off 24 balls before being dismissed, while Bethel contributed 21 runs, hitting four boundaries. After losing four wickets for just 58 runs, Sam Curran and Tom Banton stepped up, putting together a crucial partnership of 42 runs for the fifth wicket.
