
Lucknow, March 6: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, an event titled ‘Progress and Self-Respect’ will be held in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday. Organized by the Department of Basic Education in collaboration with UNICEF, the event will take place at Dayal Gateway, Vibhuti Khand, Gomti Nagar, under the theme ‘Progress 2026: From Self-Respect to Equality and International Women’s Day.’
The primary goal of this event is to promote the empowerment of girls, gender equality, and social change through education.
This initiative aims to enhance girls’ education, self-esteem, and leadership skills while raising awareness about gender equality in society.
The Chief Guest for the event will be Sandeep Singh, the Minister of Basic Education in Uttar Pradesh. Senior officials from the Department of Basic Education, the Department of Comprehensive Education, and representatives from UNICEF will also be present.
Approximately 900 participants from various districts of the state will attend, including students, teachers, district coordinators, and officials from the education department.
During the program, cultural performances, street plays, yoga demonstrations, and various activities related to women’s empowerment will be conducted, showcasing the talents, self-respect, and leadership abilities of daughters.
An official stated that 20 selected girls and former students from different districts will be honored for their outstanding achievements. The honored girls include Bhavna (Moradabad), Anokhi (Lucknow), Payal Pal (Lucknow), Shikha Gangwar (Bareilly), Neha Sagar (Bareilly), Vanshika Yadav (Bareilly), Soni, Prachi, Priyanshi, and Tamanna (Bulandshahr), Lali and Sheikh Rafia (Unnao), Chhaya Chaurasia (Mau), Garima (Azamgarh), and Shagun Vishwakarma (Bhadohi).
These girls have made remarkable accomplishments in sports and education. Additionally, former students such as Maisar Jahan (Bijnor), Shivani (Jhansi), Nidhi Verma (Lakhimpur), Shaheen (Barabanki), and Rekha Singh (Ghaziabad) will also be recognized for their social contributions and achievements. Special sessions will be organized during the event to share comic books created by children, inspiring stories of girls, and their experiences.
