Hyderabad, October 5 (Daily Kiran) : Telangana’s Minister for Roads and Buildings, Komatireddy Venkata Reddy, met with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Monday, requesting approval for crucial infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The minister emphasized the need to alleviate traffic congestion in Hyderabad and enhance transportation facilities to the state’s tourist destinations, thereby boosting regional economic development.
The meeting took place following the inauguration of a two-day national conference on highway infrastructure in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat. According to a statement from the minister’s office, both leaders discussed pending approvals and funding for key infrastructure projects in Telangana, along with the development of national highways.
To address the growing traffic congestion in eastern Hyderabad, Venkata Reddy proposed a double-decker elevated corridor spanning approximately six kilometers from LB Nagar to Hayath Nagar. He noted that the central government had already approved ₹545 crore for upgrading the LB Nagar-Malkapur section of NH-65 into a six-lane highway, including a service road.
Additionally, the Telangana government has decided to extend the Miyapur-LB Nagar metro rail corridor to Hayath Nagar. The minister requested that this double-decker elevated corridor be included in the annual plan for 2026-27 to align with the metro project.
To enhance connectivity to tourism and religious sites in Telangana, Venkata Reddy sought approval for five ropeway projects under the Parvatmala scheme, with an estimated cost of ₹1,230 crore. He stated that these initiatives would not only facilitate travel for pilgrims and tourists but also contribute to the development of an environmentally friendly transport system.
The minister also urged Gadkari to expedite the conversion of the Hyderabad-Vijayawada-Machilipatnam NH-65 into a six-lane highway. He highlighted that traffic volume on this route has exceeded 120,000 passenger car units, leading to numerous accident-prone zones. Emphasizing the urgent need for road widening to meet traffic demands and enhance safety, he requested the central government’s support.
Further, Venkata Reddy sought approval for an elevated corridor on the Hyderabad-Shri Shailam NH-765, particularly in the Tiger Reserve forest area. This corridor would address challenges associated with widening roads in forested regions, ensuring safer and more comfortable journeys for pilgrims traveling to Shri Shailam while protecting the Nallamala forest ecosystem.
For the financial year 2026-27, he requested funding for 33 road development projects in Telangana under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) scheme. The total estimated cost for these projects, spanning 511.68 kilometers, is ₹1,227.75 crore. He stressed the importance of these projects, proposed by local MPs and MLAs, for balanced regional development across the state.
Venkata Reddy also called for prompt financial and cabinet approval for the northern section of the Hyderabad Regional Ring Road (RRR). He noted that the state government is prepared to cover 50 percent of the land acquisition costs. This segment will run 161.518 kilometers along the Sangareddy-Narsapur-Tupran-Gajwel-Jagdevpur-Bhongir-Choutuppal route, with over 90 percent of land approvals already secured.
Additionally, he requested that the southern section of the RRR be developed similarly to the northern section, ensuring a complete ring around Hyderabad. This southern segment will play a crucial role in supporting future infrastructure projects, such as the “Bharat Future City,” industrial parks, and radial roads.
Lastly, the minister urged for accelerated processing of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Hyderabad-Amaravati Greenfield Expressway project, which aims to strengthen connectivity between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. He highlighted that linking this expressway to Telangana’s dry port would facilitate easier freight transport and significantly boost economic activities and industrial development.
