Effective Drug Control Requires 100% Law Enforcement and Awareness: Sameer Wankhede

Mumbai, April 25: At a Hindu conference in Mumbai, IRS officer Sameer Wankhede spoke with a news agency about the importance of drug de-addiction initiatives. He emphasized that when society unites on critical issues, effective law enforcement can lead to meaningful change.

Wankhede urged the Hindu community and religious leaders to educate people through religious texts, noting that both Buddhism and Hinduism advocate for drug-free living. He expressed his commitment to the Hindu community, stating that if people come together, they can combat drug abuse. “With 100% law enforcement and awareness, we can fight against drugs,” he asserted.

He highlighted the significant size of the Hindu community in the nation. Increased awareness about drugs will prevent drug dealers from thriving in society. Wankhede mentioned that during his tenure at the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), he encountered cases involving individuals supplying narcotics to children, who he believes should face severe penalties.

Recently, the Bombay High Court heard a case regarding the cancellation of an FIR linked to Wankhede. This case involves allegations that he solicited bribes from superstar Shah Rukh Khan.

During the hearing, Wankhede categorically denied all allegations, stating that he never demanded bribes from Khan or anyone else in connection with the Cordelia cruise drug case, where Khan’s son Aryan Khan was arrested.

Wankhede’s senior lawyer, Abad Ponda, presented arguments in court, asserting that his client neither requested nor accepted any money, contrary to claims made in the CBI FIR. He noted that no substantial evidence has been presented in this case under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
