
New Delhi, April 10: India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar held a phone conversation with his Japanese counterpart, Toshimitsu Motegi, on Friday. The two leaders discussed the current tensions in West Asia and the situation regarding the Strait of Hormuz. Both ministers shared insights on the matter. The Japanese Foreign Minister expressed condolences for the Indians who lost their lives during the U.S.-Iran conflict.
Dr. Jaishankar took to social media platform X to share, “It was good to speak with Japan’s Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi. We discussed developments regarding international shipping through the Strait of Hormuz in West Asia. Thank you for your condolences for the Indians who lost their lives in the conflict.”
Meanwhile, Minister Motegi stated, “I spoke with India’s External Affairs Minister Jaishankar. We addressed the current situation in the Middle East, ensuring navigation security in the Strait of Hormuz, stabilizing conditions, and enhancing the supply capacity of energy and resources.” This information was also shared by Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Just a day prior, the Indian External Affairs Minister met with the Prime Minister of Mauritius, Dr. Navin Ramgoolam, to convey greetings from India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Dr. Jaishankar expressed his pleasure in meeting Prime Minister Ramgoolam, stating, “I conveyed greetings from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. We have seen significant and tangible progress in our comprehensive partnership over the past year.”
The Minister noted, “We discussed various aspects, including development cooperation, health, education, capacity building, mobility, technology, maritime security, and people-to-people connections. We also talked about developments in West Asia and their implications.”
Dr. Jaishankar emphasized the deep respect for Prime Minister Ramgoolam’s firm commitment to the enduring friendship between India and Mauritius. He provided insights into key discussions during a special meeting with Prime Minister Ramgoolam, where he participated in several important programs.
