Philadelphia, April 14: As the 2026 NFL Draft approaches, the Philadelphia Eagles are actively reshaping their wide receiver lineup. The recent acquisition of former Packers receiver Dontayvion Wicks marks the latest addition to a revamped roster. This move raises questions about the future of A.J. Brown, who has been at the center of trade discussions.
Let’s examine the current state of the Eagles’ wide receiver room.
A.J. Brown
Trade discussions involving the All-Pro receiver have paused for now, but they are expected to resume after June 1. Despite speculation, there are strong indications that Brown may not remain in Philadelphia next season. He expressed frustration with the offense in 2025, and the Eagles explored trade options when free agency began.
General Manager Howie Roseman is unlikely to part with such a talented player for a minimal return. Most of Brown’s preferred destinations have already filled their receiver positions, except for New England. Although Brown has repeatedly stated that Philadelphia is his home, the team may need to address any lingering issues. Keeping a player who isn’t fully committed could be detrimental.
Since joining the Eagles in 2022, Brown has achieved 339 receptions for 5,034 yards, ranking ninth in franchise history, along with 32 touchdowns.
DeVonta Smith
Should the Eagles decide to move on from A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith is poised to take on the WR1 role. The Eagles are genuinely excited about Smith stepping up as the focal point of the offense. Matthew Berry noted this sentiment during the NFL Scouting Combine.
“The Eagles are weighing their options regarding A.J. Brown. They are open to trading him, but they have immense faith in DeVonta Smith. They believe he has yet to reach his full potential and could excel with increased targets, similar to Jaxon Smith-Njigba. This confidence in Smith is a key reason they might consider moving Brown.”
With new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion implementing a system inspired by Sean McVay and Kyle Shanahan, Smith’s potential is limitless. Fantasy football enthusiasts should invest in DeVonta Smith.
Hollywood Brown
In March, the Eagles signed former Ravens and Chiefs receiver Hollywood Brown to a one-year contract, filling the gap left by Jahan Dotson’s departure to the Atlanta Falcons. Brown recorded 49 receptions for 587 yards and five touchdowns last season while playing with Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City.
As a former first-round pick in 2019, Brown has demonstrated his ability to stretch the field and remain a significant downfield threat at 28 years old.
Dontayvion Wicks
Wicks is considered one of the NFL’s hidden gems at the receiver position. He is known for his precise route-running and ability to get open against man coverage, despite being part of a crowded Packers offense alongside Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, and Jayden Reed.
While Wicks struggled with drops in the past, leading the NFL in drop rate in 2024, he showed improvement last season with only two drops in 14 games. He has the potential to be a dynamic WR3 with WR2 upside if A.J. Brown is traded.
Elijah Moore
Continuing the trend of signing former high draft picks, the Eagles reached an agreement with WR Elijah Moore on March 24. Fans quickly linked this signing to Moore’s friendship with A.J. Brown from their college days.
However, bringing in a player solely to please another isn’t ideal. Moore faces a challenging path to secure a roster spot. Last season, he managed only nine catches in nine games with Buffalo before being waived and joining Denver’s practice squad. He has shown promise in the NFL, particularly in Cleveland, where he amassed 1,178 yards over two seasons.
Moore will need a strong training camp to earn a role in the offense.
Darius Cooper
Cooper gained attention last summer after going undrafted from Tarleton State. He impressed during training camp and carried that momentum into the preseason, securing a spot on the final 53-man roster.
In 2025, Cooper played 212 offensive snaps, recording nine receptions for 92 yards. With reliable hands and a strong work ethic, he could see an expanded role in the future.
