New Delhi, March 16: Dubai Airport announced on Monday that it has temporarily suspended all flights due to a drone colliding with a fuel tank. This decision was made as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of passengers and staff.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Dubai Airport stated, “All flights at DXB (Dubai International Airport) have been temporarily suspended as a precaution to ensure the safety of all passengers and staff. Please contact your airline for the latest flight updates.”
The Dubai Civil Aviation Authority advised travelers to check with their respective airlines for the most current information regarding their flights.
The Dubai Media Office also mentioned on ‘X’, “Further information will be shared through official channels as it becomes available.”
The incident occurred when a drone collided with a fuel tank near Dubai International Airport, leading to a fire. Emergency teams acted swiftly, resulting in the temporary suspension of flights.
Authorities confirmed that the Dubai Civil Defense team was promptly deployed to extinguish the fire, and due to the implementation of safety measures, there were no reports of injuries.
Meanwhile, an Emirates flight from Kochi to Dubai returned after receiving news of the incident. A spokesperson for CIAL reported that Flight EK533, carrying 325 passengers, had departed from Cochin International Airport at 4:30 AM but was instructed to return due to the sudden closure of Dubai International Airport.
Additionally, the Ministry of Defense of the United Arab Emirates reported six fatalities since the onset of the conflict—four civilians and two military personnel—resulting from a helicopter crash caused by technical failure.
