
Chamoli, May 17: A district planning meeting was held at the Collectorate auditorium under the chairmanship of Minister in charge Bharat Singh Chaudhary. The meeting aimed to accelerate development in Chamoli district through rural development, small and medium enterprises, Khadi, and village industries.
During the meeting, a budget of ₹74.23 crore was approved for the annual district plan for the financial year 2026-27.
Minister Chaudhary emphasized the inclusion of proposals from all public representatives in the district plan. He noted that several developmental and public welfare projects were successfully completed in the past year, and the upcoming year’s plan will play a crucial role in the district’s comprehensive development.
The meeting reviewed proposed plans from various departments, including Public Works, Drinking Water, Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Irrigation, Tourism, Sports and Youth Welfare, Health, Industry, Panchayati Raj, Education, and Child Development.
Chaudhary instructed that the plans should be implemented with a cluster-based approach. He stressed the importance of better coordination between central and state government schemes to maximize benefits for the public. He also directed priority completion of pending and ongoing projects.
Focusing on strengthening the agriculture sector, he instructed the Agriculture Department to provide farmers with high-quality agricultural equipment at subsidized rates. Additionally, he emphasized the need for chain link fencing to protect crops from wild animals.
The Horticulture Department was directed to develop large clusters for kiwi production, considering its potential in the district. They were also tasked with strengthening production, marketing, and packaging systems to enhance farmers’ economic benefits.
Chaudhary highlighted the significance of the Animal Husbandry Department for the mountain economy, calling it a “game changer.” He stressed the need for impactful projects through the district plan, which would promote organic farming and create new employment and self-employment opportunities locally. He also instructed the promotion of high-quality livestock.
He pointed out the importance of sectors like fisheries, dairy, and cooperatives for strengthening the rural economy, urging more work in these areas. This year’s district plan includes innovative and production-oriented initiatives in livelihood-based sectors such as agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, dairy, and fisheries, aimed at boosting local employment and strengthening the rural economy.
Chaudhary concluded by stating that the district plan for Chamoli has been approved with a budget of approximately ₹74 crore. Proposals from all departments were submitted through the District Magistrate, reviewed, and allocated funds based on their needs.
