
Kolkata, March 8: On Sunday morning, several local trains were canceled in Kolkata, causing significant inconvenience for candidates attending the Group-D recruitment exam. Approximately 809,000 applications have been received for the written examination.
According to railway officials, multiple trains were canceled in the Howrah and Asansol divisions due to maintenance and disruptive block activities. This was done to ensure the safe and timely travel of passengers. Additionally, some train schedules were altered.
A spokesperson for Eastern Railway stated, “To minimize inconvenience for passengers, the timings of all canceled and rescheduled trains have been communicated in advance. We apologize for any inconvenience caused. Please check the schedule at your respective stations or on the railway’s official website before heading to your destination.”
The list of canceled trains from Howrah Station on Sunday included 37823, 37825, 37055, 37651, 37237, 37241, 36821, 36823, 36827, 36031, 36033, 37917, and 37611. Additionally, several trains departing from Bandel, Sheoraphuli, Pandua, Memari, Katwa, Azimganj, Bardhaman, Chandanpur, Sealdah, and Dankuni were also canceled.
The Godda-Sealdah MEMU will now depart at 11:45 AM instead of 9:45 AM. Other scheduled trains have also seen necessary adjustments in their timings.
In the Asansol division, the canceled trains included the Dumka-JCD DEMU (Diesel Electric Multiple Unit), Bardhaman-Asansol MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit), Andal-Bardhaman MEMU, and several other passenger and MEMU trains. Furthermore, the Howrah-Suri Hal Express and Asansol-Gaya MEMU trains have had their schedules moved forward by one hour.
To assist passengers, ticket counters and help desks in the Howrah and Asansol divisions will remain operational. This special arrangement aims to ensure that maintenance and repair work is completed smoothly, allowing passengers to reach their destinations safely and in an organized manner.
A total of 1,707 centers have been established across the state for the written examination conducted by the School Service Commission for Group-D recruitment.
For security reasons, several restrictions have been issued for candidates. Wearing boots or closed shoes is prohibited. Only slippers or flip-flops are allowed in the exam center. Carrying mobile phones, calculators, jewelry, or other electronic devices is banned. Candidates may only bring their admit cards, a clear water bottle, and a pen.
The exam will commence at 12 PM and conclude at 1:45 PM. However, candidates will only be allowed to exit the exam centers after 2 PM.
