Mumbai, March 7: Bollywood actress Dia Mirza frequently advocates for tree protection, cleanliness, and increased greenery through her social media platforms. On Saturday, she continued her call for more greenery.
The actress shared images of lush forests on her official Instagram account. She emphasized, “We need more greenery. Our trees are not martyrs, and they should never have to be.”
Mirza expressed deep concern about the environmental state of Mumbai. She stated, “The city is losing the life systems that allow us to breathe. The mangrove forests, mountains, rivers, and ancient woods have safeguarded us for generations. These old trees maintain biodiversity, regulate climate, prevent floods, and provide oxygen. Cutting them down and planting new trees elsewhere cannot compensate for their loss.”
Using her son as an example, she highlighted that when we cut down trees, we are not just clearing land but also erasing the future for our children, all in the name of development. She questioned, “If development requires us to destroy the very natural systems that sustain us, then who is this development for? The convenience of a few cannot come at the cost of our future. Such development will make life difficult for everyone.”
Dia stressed that a city like Mumbai needs a form of development that protects forests, mangroves, mountains, and rivers, rather than destroying lives. Tagging the Mumbai Municipal Corporation, she wrote, “We, the citizens of Mumbai, will work with you to find solutions that allow for development while also safeguarding nature.”
In addition to her acting career, Dia Mirza has served as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Environment Program and has been involved in various social initiatives.
