Development of Sant Ravidas Nagar, Mirzapur, and Varanasi as Silk Clusters Announced by CM Yogi

Sant Ravidas Nagar, October 4 (Daily Kiran) : Sant Ravidas Nagar is set to be developed as a silk cluster, along with Mirzapur and Varanasi. This announcement was made by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during the Golden Jubilee edition of the India Carpet Expo. The CM also revealed that the Varanasi-Vindhya Regional Development Plan will be implemented soon.

While addressing exporters, vendors, and entrepreneurs in the carpet industry, CM Yogi listened to the concerns raised about the need for a dedicated policy for the carpet sector, business requirements, and the participation of women entrepreneurs. He assured attendees that the government would take note of the issues discussed.

Anil Kumar, a carpet businessman from Mirzapur, praised the Yogi government for improving connectivity and highlighted issues related to the ancient city and its carpet trade. The Chief Minister assured him that the government would address these matters.

Imtiaz Ahmad noted that the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme has greatly benefited entrepreneurs. He suggested that a similar policy for the carpet industry could enhance business and create new job opportunities. He also mentioned receiving blessings from CM Yogi for the third time.

Piyush Kumar Baranwal emphasized that India is number one in handmade carpets. He suggested that since carpet production takes more time, the industry should be treated slightly differently in terms of policy considerations.

The Chief Minister acknowledged this as a good suggestion and commended the weavers for preserving their ancestral heritage. He assured attendees that the government would consider this proposal.

Adarsh Purnima remarked on the significant change in venue for the India Carpet Expo, which was previously held in Delhi. Now, it takes place in Bhadohi, and the Chief Minister has attended twice to promote the carpet industry. She pointed out that while many women work in the carpet sector, the existing structure of the Carpet Export Promotion Council (CEPC) has not effectively included them. She advocated for provisions that would enhance women’s participation and boost their morale.

CM Yogi responded by referencing the Nari Shakti Vandan Act introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He stated that women will no longer rely solely on government support but will have the power to create laws for themselves. He urged the CEPC to ensure the inclusion of women entrepreneurs and reserve spaces for them, promising a transformative approach in this direction.
