New Delhi, May 10: The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Tarunjeet Sandhu, has called on residents and visitors to collaborate with the Delhi Traffic Police to create a safer and more disciplined traffic environment in the capital.
In a post on the social media platform X, Sandhu stated, “Dear fellow residents of Delhi and visitors to our city, I urge you to support the Delhi Traffic Police in making our capital a safe, smooth, and orderly place for traffic.”
He emphasized that adhering to traffic rules is a vital civic responsibility for the well-being of our beloved Delhi. Compliance helps reduce traffic jams, prevent accidents, and mitigate air pollution caused by vehicles idling at signals and gridlocks.
The Lieutenant Governor urged everyone to strictly avoid activities such as driving in the wrong direction, running red lights, and crossing streets dangerously. Simple actions like responsible parking and wearing helmets and seat belts reflect our duty towards fellow citizens and our families.
He also mentioned that he has directed the traffic police to enhance their enforcement efforts across Delhi. Residents can strengthen this initiative by reporting violations and earning rewards through the ‘Traffic Prahari’ app.
Sandhu concluded that a well-organized and safe Delhi is within reach if we commit to following these basic rules. He looks forward to everyone’s cooperation in making the capital a better place.
Just a day prior, the Delhi Traffic Police announced a special campaign against driving in the wrong direction on their social media platform X. This initiative aims to improve road safety, maintain traffic discipline, and prevent fatal accidents throughout the National Capital Region.
Since May 4, strict legal action has been taken against violators, resulting in 72 FIRs filed and 7,249 challans issued. According to the police, driving in the wrong direction remains a significant cause of head-on collisions, traffic jams, and serious road accidents.
The Delhi Traffic Police appealed to citizens to use designated routes and adhere to traffic rules for public safety.
