Delhis Air Quality Improves Amid Punjabs Stubble Burning Crisis, Says Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa

Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa criticizes AAPs leadership and highlights air quality improvements while addressing Punjabs pollution issues.

New Delhi, November 3 (Daily Kiran) : New Delhi, November 3 — During a press conference, Delhi government minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its leaders, questioning the appointment of the Punjab Pollution Control Board chairman. He alleged that AAP’s political strategy is rooted in falsehoods and deception, particularly regarding stubble burning in Punjab and its impact on air quality in Delhi.

Sirsa pointed out that in the 75 years since India’s independence, no non-Punjabi, non-Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer or technical expert has ever been appointed to head the Punjab Pollution Control Board. He accused AAP of appointing a political spokesperson from Delhi to this crucial position, emphasizing that the appointee has close family ties to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

At the press conference, Sirsa also highlighted improvements in Delhi’s air quality. Under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s leadership, the Delhi government has implemented several measures to combat pollution over the past year. He noted that Delhi recorded 220 days of clean air this year, the highest in the last decade.

He described October 2026 as the cleanest October in ten years and reported that the average air quality index for the year is the lowest in a decade, showing a 10% improvement compared to previous years.

Sirsa raised serious concerns about the more than 1,000 incidents of stubble burning reported in Punjab. He claimed that in some cases, police officers were present during the burning, casting doubt on the role of law enforcement and government officials.

He urged former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia to work collaboratively for the city’s benefit. Sirsa stated that while the previous government’s decade-long tenure had worsened conditions in Delhi, efforts are now underway to restore cleanliness and improve the city’s environment. He assured that pollution levels are consistently declining as the government strives to provide better living conditions through good governance.
