Delhi Health Minister Orders Increased Inspections After Destruction of 4,500 Kg of Unsafe Food

Delhis health minister emphasizes food safety as 4,500 kg of unsafe food is destroyed in two months, urging continuous inspections.

New Delhi, November 3 (Daily Kiran) : New Delhi’s Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh held a review meeting on food safety on Tuesday, urging officials to expedite inspections of food storage facilities. This directive comes in response to recent discoveries of adulterated food products, including milk and paneer.

According to an official statement from the Delhi government, over 4,500 kilograms of unsafe food supplies have been destroyed in the past two months due to enforcement actions. This figure includes approximately 3,440 kilograms of khoya, chaap, and butter, along with 658 kilograms of paneer and 139 kilograms of expired food items.

In total, the food safety department has tested 429 food samples over this period, which includes 307 enforcement samples and 122 surveillance samples. Food safety inspections have been conducted across various districts in the capital, with teams from the Delhi Police also participating.

Special campaigns have targeted adulteration in paneer, khoya, and ghee, alongside raids on sweet manufacturers, dairy establishments, and fast-food outlets. During the review, Minister Singh emphasized the need for continuous vigilance, instructing officials to ensure that inspection efforts are not limited to festive seasons but are sustained throughout the year.

Singh reiterated that there can be no compromise on food safety, advocating for a zero-tolerance policy towards food adulteration. He directed officials to maintain special vigilance on priority food categories, especially during the festive season, including khoya, paneer, chenna, sweets, snacks, ghee, cooking oils, and dried fruits.

The minister stressed that the health and safety of Delhi residents must never be compromised. Food adulteration poses a serious threat to public health, and stringent legal action will be taken against those involved in such offenses.
