New Delhi, May 20: Following the success of the ‘Metro Monday’ initiative, the Delhi government has intensified its promotion of a work-from-home campaign. Minister Kapil Mishra announced on Wednesday that in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for fuel conservation, ministers and government employees, including himself, are now working remotely.
In an interview with a news agency, Mishra revealed that the Delhi government has decided to implement a work-from-home policy every Wednesday and Saturday. He emphasized that the entire nation is united in response to the Prime Minister’s call. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has also agreed to the two-day work-from-home policy.
Mishra noted that Chief Minister Gupta is managing government operations through the ‘Jan Seva Kendra,’ while ministers and officials are conducting most of their meetings online. He also shared feedback on the recently launched ‘Metro Monday’ initiative, which encourages the public to use public transport instead of private vehicles.
According to the minister, participation in ‘Metro Monday’ has been robust, prompting the metro service to increase its frequency and the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) to expand its feeder services. The effects of this campaign are already visible on Delhi’s roads, with more people actively participating and a noticeable reduction in traffic.
He mentioned that the business community in Delhi has also supported these initiatives. On Tuesday evening, he held a meeting with representatives from major business institutions and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Delhi chapter. During this meeting, representatives from nearly all major business organizations agreed to implement work-from-home and carpooling at their workplaces.
In response to Prime Minister Modi’s appeal, the Delhi government is promoting measures aimed at conserving fuel and energy while encouraging greater use of public transport and shared transportation systems in the National Capital Region.
