New Delhi, March 16: In a significant move towards inclusive governance, the Delhi government, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, has approved a proposal to include transgender passengers in the free travel scheme for all bus routes operated by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and the Transport Department.
Under this important decision, eligible transgender individuals residing in Delhi will now be able to enjoy free travel on DTC and cluster buses, similar to the existing free travel provision for women passengers on Delhi buses.
This initiative reflects the Rekha Gupta government’s commitment to social inclusion, dignity, and ensuring equal access to public services for all communities.
The aim of this decision is to provide members of the transgender community with safe and convenient travel in the city without any financial barriers.
According to officials, this facility will be implemented under the same framework and mechanisms as the free travel scheme currently applicable to women on Delhi buses.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that her government is dedicated to building a more inclusive, equitable, and sensitive Delhi, where every citizen has access to opportunities and public services with respect.
This decision marks another significant step by the Delhi government to strengthen social justice and promote inclusive urban transportation in the national capital.
