New Delhi, September 6 (Daily Kiran) : A tragic building collapse in New Delhi’s Satya Niketan area has left multiple individuals dead and sparked widespread fear among local residents. BJP MPs Praveen Khandelwal and Ramveer Singh Bidhuri expressed their condolences and assured that strict action would be taken against those responsible for the incident.
Witnesses described the moment of the collapse as feeling like an earthquake. The incident occurred on Sunday, resulting in the deaths of several people, while rescue teams have successfully saved six individuals so far.
Khandelwal spoke to a news agency, stating, “This is a very unfortunate incident. As soon as we received information, our MLA Anil Sharma rushed to the site. We will take the strictest action against anyone found responsible.”
Bidhuri added that the building was old, having been constructed several years ago, and emphasized the need for accountability. He noted that a committee has been formed to investigate the incident and that the building’s owner has already been arrested.
Aryan Mann, president of the Delhi University Students’ Union, recounted his experience, saying, “I was just 10 minutes away when the incident occurred. I rushed to the scene with fellow ABVP members. We managed to rescue around 8 to 10 students, and I personally helped send three injured students to the hospital.”
Local residents reported hearing a loud noise before realizing the building had collapsed. Cracks have also appeared in an adjacent structure, raising concerns about further safety risks.
An eyewitness remarked that the building’s age contributed to its collapse and urged the government to take stricter measures regarding older structures. Another local, Pankaj, who has lived in the area for 40 years, mentioned that construction work was ongoing. He noted that the ground floor had been closed for some time, and heavy machinery had recently removed supporting walls, which likely led to the disaster.
Rescue operations are ongoing, with reports indicating that several students were trapped inside the building. Eyewitness Krishna Bhardwaj described a harrowing scene where two children were found alive, pleading for water. He sustained injuries during the rescue but managed to help save them.
Abhyuday Pratap, the brother of a young man trapped in the rubble, shared his distress, stating, “My brother Aditya is studying at ASID. He sent me a video from inside, showing he is stuck. I had just left him at the hospital when I received this video.”
The community remains shaken, with many fearing for their safety as rescue efforts continue.
