D.K. Shivakumar to Meet Karnataka Governor Ahead of Congress Legislative Meeting

Bengaluru, May 30: D.K. Shivakumar, the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka and President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), will meet Governor Thawarchand Gehlot at 10:30 AM today. Later, at 4 PM, he will convene a meeting of the Congress Legislative Party (CLP).

On May 29, Shivakumar met Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, seeking his blessings. He emphasized that completing the election process for the CLP leader is an immediate priority, with discussions on other matters to follow.

This meeting comes in the wake of the resignation of Siddaramaiah, the caretaker Chief Minister, amid ongoing political developments. The CLP meeting aims to elect a new leader following Siddaramaiah’s resignation, who is expected to be the party’s candidate for the Chief Minister position.

The CLP meeting will commence at 4 PM in the Assembly’s conference hall, chaired by Siddaramaiah as the current leader. Key attendees will include Shivakumar, AICC General Secretary and Karnataka in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala, Legislative Council floor leader N.S. Bose Raju, and all party executive presidents. This was announced by Allama Prabhu Patil, the secretary of the legislative party.

All members of the Assembly, Legislative Council, Lok Sabha, and Rajya Sabha have been invited to participate in the meeting. Patil stated that Shivakumar is already designated as the next Chief Minister. He noted that during discussions in Delhi, Siddaramaiah was advised to resign, paving the way for Shivakumar’s ascension to the Chief Minister role.
