D.K. Shivakumar Discusses Cabinet Reshuffle and Power-Sharing in Karnataka

Bengaluru, March 19: Amid ongoing leadership struggles within the Karnataka Congress, Deputy Chief Minister and state party president D.K. Shivakumar stated on Thursday that a decision regarding a cabinet reshuffle or the implementation of a power-sharing formula will be determined by time.

Shivakumar is considered a leading contender for the Chief Minister position. He has previously mentioned discussions about a power-sharing agreement with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, which took place in the presence of the party high command.

While speaking to reporters at his residence in Bengaluru, Shivakumar refrained from giving a direct answer on the matter, simply stating, “Time will decide.” He declined to comment on reports of a separate meeting with Priyanka Gandhi, asserting that his discussions are private.

When asked about AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal’s statement that the Chief Minister’s post is not vacant, Shivakumar responded, “He also mentioned that the party and the legislators will make the decision.”

Regarding the upcoming by-elections for two assembly seats, he noted that reports have been gathered at the booth level over the past two months, and feedback from party leaders has been collected. He added that AICC officials will arrive in the next few days, and the final decision will be made by the high command.

On the issue of nepotism in ticket distribution, Shivakumar emphasized that the party’s victory is paramount, not family ties. He stated that both seats are associated with influential leaders, and decisions will be made after discussions with all parties involved.

In response to allegations from central minister Ananth Kumar’s daughter, Aishwarya Kumar, claiming that Karnataka is being turned into a cash cow for the Assam elections, Shivakumar sarcastically remarked that he does not know who she is.

Addressing demands for a cabinet reshuffle and the opportunity for new faces, he mentioned that aspiring for a ministerial position is not wrong. The Chief Minister has already indicated the possibility of a reshuffle, prompting leaders to test their fortunes.
