Noida, March 25: The Cyber Crime Police of the Gautam Buddh Nagar Commissionerate has made a significant arrest. They apprehended a cunning cybercriminal who defrauded victims of millions by promising substantial profits from stock market investments. The accused swindled approximately Rs 3.26 crore through a fake investment scheme.
According to police reports, the arrest occurred after an investigation into complaints filed on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP). Technical surveillance of suspicious mobile numbers, combined with local intelligence, led to the capture of the suspect, Bunty Kumar, in Noida.
Bunty Kumar, a 32-year-old resident of Purnia district in Bihar, allegedly contacted individuals via social media and WhatsApp calls, luring them with promises of high returns on stock market investments. He then encouraged them to invest money through fake platforms and accounts. Once the victims transferred their funds, he would sever all communication.
Police discovered evidence of transactions amounting to nearly Rs 60 lakh linked to the fraud in the accused’s bank account. Additionally, a complaint against him has been registered on the NCRP portal. A case has been filed at the Noida Cyber Crime Police Station under various sections, including Section 66D of the IT Act.
Notably, this gang has faced previous crackdowns, with 14 other members already arrested and imprisoned. Bunty Kumar is considered a key member of this network.
Authorities also seized two mobile phones from the suspect, which were reportedly used for the fraudulent activities. The police are currently interrogating him and searching for other associates involved in the scheme.
The Cyber Crime Police urge the public to be cautious and not trust investment proposals from unknown individuals. They advise vigilance against fake offers received via WhatsApp or calls and recommend avoiding clicking on suspicious links. Furthermore, individuals should not share personal information, such as Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, or bank details, with anyone.
