New Delhi, August 11: The General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI), D. Raja, has strongly condemned the police action against protesting students and candidates of the JPSC-JSSC in Ranchi. He stated that the students’ demands are entirely legitimate, relating to examinations, recruitment processes, and their future.
In a post on the social media platform X, D. Raja remarked, “Young people gathering peacefully to demand justice and accountability should not be viewed as a law-and-order issue.”
He accused the authorities of using water cannons, tear gas, and batons against the protesting students, describing such actions as completely unacceptable. He warned that these measures would only escalate the students’ anger and dissatisfaction.
The CPI leader urged the state government to immediately cease the use of force against students. He emphasized the need for the government to create a conducive environment for meaningful dialogue with the protesting students and to invite their representatives for discussions. Their grievances should be listened to patiently, and concrete steps must be taken to address their legitimate demands. In a democracy, dissent cannot be met with barricades and police action.
He stressed that the government’s response to students demanding justice should be dialogue and engagement, not violence. The CPI believes that a peaceful and positive resolution to this issue can only be achieved through conversation.
Meanwhile, in response to the police action during the JPSC protests, the BJP organized several demonstrations across Ranchi. Party workers protested on Ratu Road, setting tires ablaze, led by state BJP president Aditya Sahu.
In another development, the monsoon session of the Jharkhand Assembly was adjourned indefinitely a day before its scheduled conclusion amid heavy uproar and slogans. As the session resumed at noon, opposition members began shouting slogans regarding the JPSC-JSSC issue, leading to a suspension of proceedings until 2 PM. When the session resumed, the chaos continued unabated. Amid the turmoil, Chief Minister Hemant Soren delivered a speech on the JPSC-JSSC controversy.
Due to the ongoing disruptions, it became increasingly difficult to conduct the assembly’s business. Ultimately, Assembly Speaker Ravindra Nath Mahto announced the indefinite adjournment of the monsoon session.
