Court Acquits Seven in Auto Driver Babbu Murder Case from 2020 Delhi Riots
A Delhi court acquitted seven individuals in the murder case of auto driver Babbu linked to the 2020 riots, citing lack of evidence.

New Delhi, October 16 (Daily Kiran) : In a significant ruling, a court in New Delhi has acquitted seven individuals accused in the murder case of auto driver Babbu, which stemmed from the violent riots in Northeast Delhi in 2020. The Karkardooma Court delivered its verdict on Friday, citing insufficient evidence to support the murder charges against the defendants.
Additional Sessions Judge Parveen Singh stated that the Delhi Police failed to prove that the seven accused—Kuldeep Singh, Harjeet Singh (also known as Happy), Rahul (alias Ajay), Sachin Rastogi, Bharat Bhushan (nicknamed Lucky), Sandeep (alias Sanjeev), and Dharmendra—were involved in the fatal attack on Babbu at Khajuri Chowk. The auto driver succumbed to his injuries on February 27, 2020.
While the court acquitted the accused of murder, it found them guilty of violating prohibitory orders under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). This ruling followed a lengthy legal process.
According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by the victim’s brother, Babbu was attacked near the Khajuri Roundabout while he was driving. The FIR detailed that Babbu sustained injuries during the riots and was initially taken to a local hospital before being referred to GTB Hospital, where he later passed away.
The accused faced multiple charges under the IPC, including rioting, unlawful assembly, and murder. The court’s decision has sparked discussions about the complexities of proving involvement in such violent incidents.
