New Delhi, April 8: A recent post by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on social media platform X has sparked a heated debate online. The post, which aimed to commend the ceasefire agreement between Iran and the United States, has led many users to speculate that it was not authored by Sharif himself.
In his post, Sharif appealed to former U.S. President Donald Trump to extend the deadline given to Iran. However, social media users quickly spotted a writing error that raised suspicions about the authenticity of the message.
Shortly after the post went live, users began sharing screenshots of the ‘edit history.’ These screenshots revealed that the original post included a line stating, “Draft – Message from the Prime Minister of Pakistan.”
According to a report by The Daily Beast, it appears that the ‘draft’ label was mistakenly included in the original post and was later removed in a subsequent edit. This incident has fueled speculation that the Pakistani Prime Minister may have ‘cut and pasted’ the message, raising questions about who actually wrote it.
Users on social media also pointed out that several senior U.S. officials were tagged in the post, including Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. This led to further speculation that the post was part of a coordinated effort. Questions were raised about why a Prime Minister’s team would include their own country’s name in a draft message. Some users suggested that the wording may have originated from U.S. officials.
A report from Forbes indicated that the message was scrutinized closely, as the initial draft appeared to have been written by an entity outside of Pakistan.
The Daily Beast also noted that Shahbaz Sharif later issued a revised statement, removing the reference to ‘draft.’ His office has not yet responded to requests for comments regarding this matter.
