New Delhi, April 22: Pappu Yadav, the Member of Parliament from Purnia, is facing widespread backlash for allegedly making derogatory comments about women. Leaders from both the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the opposition have expressed unanimous disapproval.
The Bihar State Women’s Commission has already issued a notice to Yadav, demanding a response within three days.
In response to Yadav’s remarks, Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad stated, “I do not wish to engage in such thinking. My party believes that where women are revered, there resides divinity.”
BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal has called for Yadav’s membership in the Lok Sabha to be revoked. He remarked, “The words used by Pappu Yadav are so shameful that I feel embarrassed even repeating them. This is our country, where women are worshipped in forms like Durga, Lakshmi, Saraswati, and Kali. The Speaker of the Lok Sabha should take cognizance of the language he used.”
Maharashtra Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule emphasized, “Such individuals should not be spared, regardless of their political affiliation. The police and both central and state women’s commissions should take strict action against them. They should be imprisoned indefinitely.”
Congress MLA from Maharashtra, Vijay Wadettiwar, stated, “Using such inappropriate language against women is inexcusable. No matter who the leader is, if they use such language, action should be taken against them; this is the stance of Congress.”
JD(U) MLA Shalini Mishra remarked, “What he said reflects his mentality. Condemning it is an understatement. He has insulted not only the women of Bihar but women across the entire country. He should apologize; otherwise, we women will take to the streets to protest.”
Meanwhile, Yadav addressed a press conference to clarify his comments. He stated, “Women who have progressed through hard work, whether they are doctors or engineers, should come forward. Today, 90% of women in India support our stance. If so many women stand with us, what is there to fear?”
He further added, “We did not name anyone; we spoke generally about all women. We also mentioned that among the remaining 10%, there are good people too. So why are you so offended?”
