New Delhi, August 6: During the monsoon session of Parliament on Thursday, Congress MPs staged a protest against the central government. They demanded answers from Home Minister Amit Shah on various issues. The MPs raised concerns regarding the alleged police action against CJP protesters on July 20, donations to the Ayodhya Ram Temple, student issues, and disruptions in parliamentary proceedings.
The cancellation of the proposed ‘Students’ Voice’ program by Rahul Gandhi in Prayagraj was also a significant topic of discussion within the Parliament premises. Congress General Secretary and MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra reacted to this decision, expressing confusion over what the government is afraid of.
During the protest, Congress MP Imran Pratapgarhi stated that the Congress party is consistently voicing fundamental issues related to the public, including the alleged police crackdown on students, “donation theft,” and the demand for government accountability. He criticized the government for avoiding discussions in Parliament, while the entire opposition seeks an open debate on these matters. He emphasized that the government lacks the courage to face public questions.
Imran Pratapgarhi further condemned the decision to cancel the program, stating that it is shameful for the government to fear a student event. He noted that the government is unwilling to engage with students, and when the opposition leader attempts to meet them and listen to their concerns, the program’s permission is revoked.
Congress MP J.B. Mathur held the central government responsible for the lack of parliamentary proceedings. He asserted that ensuring the smooth operation of Parliament is the government’s duty, which requires involving all parties and listening to the opposition’s voice. He stated that dialogue and discussion are essential for solutions in a democracy.
J.B. Mathur referenced Rahul Gandhi’s student engagement programs, highlighting that he has been meeting students across the country regarding issues like paper leaks, the education system, and youth concerns. He mentioned that Rahul Gandhi has met with students and their families in various states, including Rajasthan and Uttarakhand, and is preparing to visit Tamil Nadu. He suggested that if the program in Prayagraj is canceled, it reflects the government’s fear. The government cannot avoid facing the truth, as the youth and citizens are watching everything.
Congress MP Karti Chidambaram also criticized the ban on Rahul Gandhi’s program, citing a Tamil proverb. He stated that just because a program is not permitted at a location does not mean its purpose will not be fulfilled. He emphasized that dialogue with students is a crucial part of the democratic process.
In response to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s proposed interaction with Gen Z students, Karti Chidambaram remarked that while there is no objection to communicating with anyone, mere conversation is insufficient; it is also essential to understand the youth’s concerns.
On another issue related to Tamil Nadu, Karti Chidambaram mentioned that all government programs in the state traditionally begin with “Tamil Thai Vaazthu,” and this practice should continue. He clarified that the Congress respects the national anthem and national song but believes that local traditions should take precedence in government events in Tamil Nadu.
