Congress Leaders Defend Voices Against BJPs FIRs Targeting Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi

Congress leaders assert that the BJP cannot silence opposition voices through FIRs, emphasizing democratic rights and the need for accountability.

New Delhi, October 7 (Daily Kiran) : Congress leaders have strongly reacted to the filing of FIRs against Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, asserting that the BJP cannot suppress their voices. The statements came during protests by the INDIA bloc, aimed at Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, in New Delhi on October 7.

Ramesh Babu, a Congress leader, emphasized that the BJP’s actions are attempts to stifle dissent. “We live in a democratic system, and we have the right to protest. The BJP is using the Election Commissioner to hinder our demonstrations under the INDIA banner. Filing FIRs is just another way to silence us,” he stated. Babu added that the Congress party is well-equipped to handle such challenges, recalling their historical struggles for independence.

He also remarked, “We understand when to approach the Election Commission. We do not need lessons from the BJP. If they wish, they can have dinner with Gyanesh Kumar and guide him.”

DMK spokesperson T.K.S. Elangovan supported the Congress’s stance, asserting that citizens have the right to protest against a government that fails to deliver. “The misuse of the Election Commission for political gain is unacceptable,” he said.

JMM leader Manoj Pandey highlighted the fundamental right to vote, arguing that depriving citizens of this right amounts to treason. He pointed out that the current voter base stands at 1.02 billion, but following the FIRs, only 870 million were accounted for. “Where have the remaining 140 million voters gone? The opposition is now fully mobilized and will fight until the end. Gyanesh Kumar must resign,” Pandey insisted.

Congress MP Amar Singh criticized the Election Commission’s claim that they had not received a request for a meeting from the opposition. “This is mere excuse-making. Everyone knew that hundreds of members were marching. As a former district magistrate, I can say that when a delegation arrives, police officers typically inform the authorities to allow them in,” he explained.

Udit Raj, another Congress leader, responded to the BJP’s allegations that the Congress intends to register fake voters. He questioned how 38 million voters were unable to cast their ballots, despite a Supreme Court tribunal finding that 93 percent of examined voters were legitimate. “What does it mean that 93 percent of 38 million did not vote?” he asked.

Raj also criticized the Election Commission for not allowing Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi to enter during the opposition’s march. “What was the difficulty in letting them in? The BJP seems more interested in defending Gyanesh Kumar than the truth,” he asserted, referencing a Supreme Court revelation that the Election Commission had misrepresented orders regarding voter registration.

Congress spokesperson Surendra Rajput called for Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation and potential imprisonment for treason, arguing that his actions have undermined the rights of various marginalized groups in society. “Those who rob citizens of their rights must face the consequences of their actions,” he concluded.

Tensions continue to rise as the Congress party and its allies prepare for further actions against what they perceive as unjust political maneuvers by the ruling party.
