New Delhi, August 16: Congress leader Supriya Srinet has criticized Prime Minister Modi’s speech on Independence Day. She questioned his comment referring to ‘mental Naxals’ and defended the absence of Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge at the Red Fort ceremony.
In a conversation on Saturday, Srinet asked, “Who is the Prime Minister calling a ‘mental Naxal’? Is he labeling the youth of this country as such? He creates reels at midnight for the youth. When he uses such terms, he must clarify who he means by ‘mental Naxals’.”
She expressed disbelief at Modi discussing universities when his own educational qualifications are unclear. “Let the Prime Minister name a university he established in independent India that he will be remembered for. Nehru laid the foundation for institutions like AIIMS, IIT, ISRO, and BARC,” she stated.
Srinet noted that Modi had to mention Nehru’s contributions in his Independence Day speech. This remark was directed at his MPs who often make disrespectful comments about Nehru.
“Those who speak against our first Prime Minister disrespect the nation. Nehru was a freedom fighter who spent ten years of his youth in jail fighting for the country. I believe his words should first be heard by his own MPs,” she added.
She emphasized that the Congress party fought for the country’s freedom. “Rahul Gandhi and the Congress have sacrificed their family for the unity of this nation. If 533 seats in the Lok Sabha are reserved for underprivileged women, we will fully support it. The BJP views women merely as a vote bank,” she concluded.
