Congress Launches Major Campaign Against Election Commission, Plans Rally on November 1

New Delhi, October 5 (Daily Kiran) : Congress has announced a significant campaign against the central government and the Election Commission (EC) regarding the SIR process. Party leader Jairam Ramesh addressed reporters on Monday, revealing that the campaign will run from October 25 to November 25.

Ramesh stated, “The Congress party will implement a month-long program. We will reach out to homes, attempting to reinstate names removed by the Election Commission at every booth. We currently have information on six states at the booth level. Approximately 10 lakh booths are involved, with around 13 to 13.5 crore names affected. Over the next month, the entire Congress organization will work to gather and highlight these names to ensure their reinstatement.”

He announced that a major rally will take place at Ramleela Maidan on November 1, inviting all coalition and opposition parties to join. November 26 is celebrated as Constitution Day, so a “Delhi Chalo” march will commence from six different locations on November 25 and 26. The rallies will carry the slogans “Save Votes, Save the Country, and Remove the CEC.”

Previously, Ramesh referenced a petition demanding the suspension of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, which was discussed in the Supreme Court. He noted, “The Supreme Court today heard a petition requesting the suspension of CEC Gyanesh Kumar.”

Ramesh criticized the SIR process, describing it as haphazard, illegal, and negligent, a sentiment echoed by both current and retired judges of the Supreme Court. He emphasized that names are being removed en masse without proper procedures being followed.

He added, “The Supreme Court has an extraordinary opportunity to restore public trust in this crucial institution for our democracy. The court has sought a response on this matter, but no interim order has been issued yet.”

Highlighting the Election Commission’s legacy, Ramesh remarked that the Supreme Court has historically relied on the ECI and CEC, based on the dignified and capable functioning established by former CEC Sukumar Sen. He asserted that Gyanesh Kumar cannot claim the credibility derived from that legacy.

Ramesh alleged that malicious changes in Form 6, purportedly approved by the Supreme Court, exemplify the CEC’s deceptive conduct. He stated, “The CEC has not only lied but has also violated the law at the behest of the Prime Minister and Home Minister, betraying both the spirit and the letter of the Constitution.”

Additionally, a post on the official Congress handle accused Kumar of unlawfully stripping citizens of their voting rights to benefit the BJP, labeling it treason and calling for accountability for all involved. An important meeting on the issue of vote theft was held at Indira Bhavan, attended by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, and General Secretary KC Venugopal.
