Committed to unorganised workers: PM

New Delhi, April 16 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said the participation of unorganised labourers is important in the country’s development and said his government is committed to their welfare. “The participation of our brothers and sisters working in the unorganised sector is very important in the development of the country. Our government has always been striving to make the lives of crores of such workers easier,” he said. “While (government) schemes have ensured their social security, many more steps were taken to help them during the pandemic as well,” the Prime Minister wrote on Twitter. Summarising the steps taken by his government for the welfare of workers in the unorganised sector, he said the government introduced four labor codes by simplifying 29 labour laws. He said the government created social security fund for 38 crore unorganised workers. The Prime Minister said that 27 crore unorganised workers got access to national database e-shram and thereby got a new identity. Modi also praised the ‘One Nation, One Ration Card’ scheme of the government and said it provides facility to take ration from any of the 5 lakh ration shops across the country and ensures food security of migrant workers. The Prime Minister talked about the easy micro-loan facility to street vendors from the Pradhan Mantri Svanidhi Yojana and said that 30 lakh street vendors got loans of Rs 3.2 thousand crore till now. “The strength of crores of workers and labourers of the country is becoming the cornerstone of New India today.
