CM Yogi Adityanath Criticizes Opposition for Questioning Constitutional Institutions

CM Yogi Adityanath condemns oppositions attacks on constitutional institutions, calling them detrimental to democracy during a press conference in Lucknow.

Lucknow, September 27 (Daily Kiran) : Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched a strong rebuttal against the opposition’s concerns regarding the Special Intensive Review (SIR) during a press conference on Sunday. He accused the Congress and other opposition parties of undermining the credibility of constitutional institutions for political gain and attempting to weaken the democratic framework.

Adityanath described the opposition’s efforts to create a negative atmosphere around the SIR as unfortunate. He labeled the questioning of the Chief Election Commissioner as irresponsible and urged opposition parties to apologize to the public for their statements regarding democratic institutions. He emphasized that India’s electoral process is transparent and that creating unnecessary confusion about the electoral system is inappropriate.

According to him, the opposition is persistently trying to spread confusion about the SIR, and the uproar surrounding it could impact public trust in democratic institutions. The Chief Minister accused Congress and other opposition parties of consistently putting constitutional bodies in a negative light for their political advantage. He noted that questioning any constitutional institution or electoral process affects not just one party or election but undermines the credibility of the entire democratic system.

Adityanath pointed out that this behavior from the opposition is not new. He recalled instances where, after unfavorable election results, the opposition has raised doubts about electronic voting machines (EVMs) and the functioning of constitutional institutions. He stated that the public has rejected the Samajwadi Party and Congress on several occasions, and questioning the electoral process is unjustified.

He asserted that losing an election or having political disagreements does not justify casting doubt on the fairness of the entire electoral process and the credibility of institutions. The Chief Minister also referenced comments made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi regarding the judiciary, criticizing the party for previously questioning the Balakot airstrike, which he connected to the morale and respect of the armed forces.

Adityanath stressed that in a democracy, both the government and the opposition have responsibilities. The opposition must fulfill its political role while also respecting the dignity of constitutional institutions and the credibility of the democratic system.

He concluded by stating that India is the world’s largest democracy and that strengthening its electoral process is a collective responsibility of all political parties. He urged the opposition to present facts rather than spreading confusion among the public on issues like the SIR. The Chief Minister reaffirmed that his government and the Bharatiya Janata Party support the strengthening of democratic institutions and a transparent electoral process, criticizing the opposition for their politically motivated questions about the Election Commission and the electoral process.
