Chinas Meteorological Administration Predicts Extended Weather Forecasts by 2030

Beijing, April 28: The Earth system forecasting is considered the pinnacle of meteorology and a key factor in global meteorological and technological competition.

An official from the China Meteorological Administration stated that by 2030, the effective period for weather forecasts worldwide will exceed nine days. Key forecasting indicators, such as storm trajectories, will remain at an internationally leading level.

During China’s 15th Five-Year Plan, the China Meteorological Administration will focus on resource coordination and essential core technologies for Earth system forecasting. This initiative aims to establish a collaborative innovation system that spans all departments, fields, and industries.

Song Shanyun, Deputy Director of the China Meteorological Administration, emphasized that during the 15th Five-Year Plan, the transition from “weather forecasting” to “Earth system forecasting” will be promoted. This shift aims to enhance the capacity to respond to climate change, particularly in relation to extreme weather events.
