Beijing, May 6: China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi has labeled the military actions by the United States and Israel against Iran as “illegal.” He emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire in the region.
According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Wang made these remarks during a meeting in Beijing with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi. He stated that the Middle East is at a “critical juncture,” and a comprehensive ceasefire is essential for regional stability.
As reported by Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency, Wang reiterated China’s commitment to reducing tensions and asserted that direct dialogue between the two sides is the path to resolution.
Araghchi praised China’s “firm stance,” highlighting Beijing’s significant role in condemning the US-Israel actions. He also noted that cooperation between Tehran and Beijing will strengthen further.
This statement comes amid rising tensions in the region, prompting intensified diplomatic efforts. Meanwhile, the US President has temporarily halted the “Project Freedom.” In a social media post on Tuesday evening, he stated that this decision was made at the request of Pakistan and other nations, considering the progress towards a potential peace agreement with Iran.
Trump mentioned that “Project Freedom” is being paused for some time to assess whether a final agreement with Iran can be achieved. However, US pressure and blockades on Iranian ports will continue.
This initiative was launched on Monday to provide safe passage for commercial vessels stranded in the Strait of Hormuz, where maritime traffic has been severely impacted due to recent tensions. Defense Minister Pete Hegseth deemed it necessary for humanity, but it was halted again on Tuesday night.
