New Delhi, August 8: A public interest petition has been filed in the Supreme Court demanding an investigation into alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) Combined Civil Services Preliminary Exam-2025. This petition was submitted by social activist Harisharan Devgan.
The petition requests the Supreme Court to direct the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct an inquiry into the alleged discrepancies in the exam. Alternatively, it seeks the formation of an independent investigation committee led by a retired judge from the Supreme Court or a retired Chief Justice from outside Jharkhand.
The petitioner has also asked the court to annul the JPSC Combined Civil Services Preliminary Exam held on April 19. The petition emphasizes the need for an independent, fair, and timely investigation into the alleged irregularities in the examination process.
According to the petition, the investigation committee should include experts in forensic science, information technology, exam security, OMR evaluation, cybersecurity, and public administration to thoroughly examine every aspect of the examination process.
The Supreme Court has also been urged to order the preservation of all crucial documents and records related to the exam. This includes original OMR sheets, candidates’ carbon copies, question papers, answer keys, attendance sheets, biometric records, CCTV footage, dispatch registers, examination center reports, scanning records, evaluation data, result generation data, and other relevant documents.
The petition states that safeguarding these documents is essential to prevent any tampering with potential evidence during the investigation and to ensure transparency in the examination process.
It is noteworthy that a significant number of students in Jharkhand are currently engaged in protests and hunger strikes. On Friday, discussions took place between student representatives and government officials. However, no announcement has been made regarding the end of the protests, and there are no reports of a resolution between the demonstrators and the government. Meanwhile, the matter has now reached the Supreme Court.
