CBI Arrests Key Accused in NEET Paper Leak Case from Maharashtra

Mumbai, May 15: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a key suspect in the ‘NEET-UG 2026’ paper leak case. The accused has been identified as P.V. Kulkarni, a chemistry lecturer who was involved in the examination process for the National Testing Agency (NTA) and had access to confidential question papers.

According to the CBI, in the last week of April 2026, P.V. Kulkarni organized special coaching classes at his residence in Pune with the help of Manisha Waghmare, who was arrested on May 14. During these classes, they wrote down questions, options, and correct answers. Students hand-copied these questions into their notebooks, which matched the actual NEET question paper held on May 3, 2026.

After thorough questioning, P.V. Kulkarni, a resident of Latur, was arrested in Pune. In the past 24 hours, the CBI has conducted searches at multiple locations across the country, seizing several important documents, electronic devices, and mobile phones. A detailed forensic and technical analysis of the seized items is currently underway.

The CBI registered the case on May 12, based on a written complaint from the Ministry of Education’s Higher Education Department regarding the alleged NEET UG 2026 paper leak. Immediately after the case was filed, special teams were formed to conduct searches nationwide, leading to the detention and questioning of several suspects.

So far, seven suspects have been arrested from Jaipur, Gurugram, Nashik, Pune, and Ahilyanagar. Five of these suspects have been presented in court and remanded to police custody for seven days for further questioning.

CBI officials have stated that the investigation is ongoing and that the source of the chemistry question paper leak has been identified. They have also pinpointed the intermediaries involved in gathering students who paid substantial amounts to attend special coaching classes for discussing and preparing these question papers.
