Calcutta High Court Dismisses Case Against CM Suvendu Adhikari

The Calcutta High Court has dismissed a case linked to CM Suvendu Adhikari, stemming from a police raid during the 2024 elections.

Kolkata, September 29 (Daily Kiran) : The Calcutta High Court dismissed a long-standing case involving Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday. The case was related to a police raid that occurred at Adhikari’s rented residence in Kolaghat, East Midnapore, during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The controversy began in May 2024 when the state police raided Adhikari’s home, claiming they were searching for a wanted criminal. At that time, Adhikari, who was the opposition leader, refuted the police’s claims and accused them of harassment aimed at disrupting his campaign during the elections. He subsequently filed a case in court, where the police reiterated their previous statements.

However, the police later submitted a report to the Calcutta High Court, stating that nothing suspicious was found during the search of Adhikari’s residence. A list of empty seizures was prepared, and the investigation did not proceed further.

At the time of the raid, Adhikari was not at home, as he was attending a political event elsewhere. He alleged that around 80 police officers were involved in the operation. Following the incident, local BJP leaders and supporters protested, confronting the police and engaging in heated discussions with officers.

They accused the police of failing to follow proper protocols during the raid. Additionally, they alleged that Abhishek Banerjee, a Lok Sabha MP, was the mastermind behind the police action. Adhikari also implicated staff from the Indian Political Action Committee, who were working as electoral strategists for the Trinamool Congress, claiming they were present with the police during the raid.

After reviewing the case, the Calcutta High Court ultimately dismissed the matter on Tuesday, bringing an end to the legal proceedings.
