Itanagar, August 2: The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has successfully restored access to Huri village in Arunachal Pradesh’s Kurung Kumey district by constructing a 200-foot-long bailey bridge. This new bridge replaces the old one that was swept away during a sudden flash flood on the night of July 11.
In a statement, the BRO confirmed that the new bailey bridge has reestablished crucial road connectivity for Huri village, which had been severely affected by the flood. The loss of the bridge disrupted transportation, essential supplies, and emergency health services in the area.
Huri village is a remote border settlement located in the Damin circle of Kurung Kumey district, near the India-China Line of Actual Control. Restoring road access here is vital not only for the local population but also from a strategic perspective.
A spokesperson reported that BRO’s Project Arunank completed this task in mission mode. Teams from the 756 Border Roads Task Force, including 85 road construction companies, worked tirelessly under challenging conditions such as heavy rainfall, swift river currents, unstable ground, and rugged terrain. These factors made it difficult to prepare the bridge’s foundation and establish the access route.
The remote location, limited availability of construction materials and resources, and frequent landslides further complicated the project. Despite these challenges, BRO personnel worked day and night to complete the bridge in the shortest possible time, even in adverse weather and hazardous conditions.
The project involved not only the construction and installation of the 200-foot bailey bridge but also the removal of debris caused by landslides, repairing damaged roads, and strengthening access routes to facilitate the movement of people, machinery, and essential goods.
Thanks to effective planning, technical expertise, and coordinated team efforts, the BRO has restored this critical “lifeline” in a short period, significantly improving connectivity in this remote border area.
The completion of the bridge has brought immense relief to local residents. The people of Huri village expressed their gratitude to the BRO, stating that the restoration of road connectivity will enable them to resume their daily lives, access employment, health services, education, and the regular supply of essential goods.
