Patna, May 14: A blackout will occur in Patna and five other districts of Bihar on Thursday at 7 PM, triggered by a siren. All vehicles on the roads will come to a halt at that moment. This exercise is part of a mock drill organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, to simulate air attack scenarios and blackout procedures in Patna, Kishanganj, Begusarai, Purnea, Araria, and Katihar.
The Directorate of Civil Defence at the state level is the nodal agency for this drill. Preparations for the successful execution of the mock drill have been completed. On Wednesday, a tabletop exercise was conducted via video conferencing, led by Principal Secretary of the Disaster Management Department, Santosh Kumar Mall, and Director General of the Civil Defence Directorate, Dr. Paresh Saxena, with disaster officials from the relevant districts.
The Principal Secretary urged the public not to panic during the blackout from 7 PM to 7:15 PM. He advised against using generators in apartments or any light sources like mobile screens or torches, to ensure complete darkness during the exercise.
Additionally, the Patna district administration has requested residents, shopkeepers, and vehicle owners to turn off lights during the blackout drill. Essential services will continue to operate.
Officials emphasized that this is a civil defense exercise aimed at preparing for potential air attacks, and there is no need for alarm. The public has been urged to disregard any rumors.
During the mock drill, a control room will remain active. Simulation sites have been selected in Patna, including the Patna Collectorate, Biscoman Bhawan, Bankipur Bus Stand, and IGIMS. Specific disaster scenarios will be established at these sites, and activities will be conducted according to the operational plan.
